My CPA literally said ‘don’t post this.’
So here I am, posting it. π
Last year these 3 moves saved me $6,200 in taxes as a side hustler. If you’re 1099, self-employed, or running a side hustle β screenshot this NOW.
1. The S-Corp Switch πΌ
Once your side hustle clears ~$40K/yr in profit, electing S-Corp status can save you THOUSANDS in self-employment tax. I pay myself a ‘reasonable salary’ + take the rest as distributions (which aren’t hit with the 15.3% SE tax). This alone saved me $3,800.
2. The Augusta Rule π‘
You can rent your own home to your business for up to 14 days/year β TAX FREE. Hold quarterly ‘strategy meetings’ there, pay yourself fair market rent, and deduct it as a business expense. Done right = ~$1,500+ in legal tax-free income.
3. The Accountable Plan π±
Instead of guessing at home office + phone + internet write-offs, set up an Accountable Plan and reimburse YOURSELF from your business. Cleaner paper trail, bigger deductions, audit-proof. Saved me another $900.
The wild part? None of this is illegal. None of it is ‘gray area.’ It’s literally in the tax code β but most CPAs won’t bring it up unless YOU ask.
The rich don’t pay less tax because they cheat.
They pay less because they KNOW the rules.
